MANILA, Philippines – Manila Water Foundation (MWF), the social development arm of East Zone concessionaire Manila Water, will lead month-long events and activities to celebrate Global Handwashing Day (GHD) on October 15.
The theme of this year’s GHD is “Why are Clean Hands Still Important?”, a question deemed relevant in reflecting the role of handwashing in everyday life, especially with the increase of the spread of communicable diseases such as Covid-19 and Mpox.
On Monday, October 14, MWF in partnership with P&G Safeguard will be hosted by the San Juan City Government for a GHD event.

On October 15, MWF in partnership with PHILUSA Corporation, will host another Global Handwashing Day event at the La Mesa Ecopark in Barangay Greater Lagro, Quezon City.
To close the series of events, MWF returns to La Mesa Ecopark on October 30 for the #SAFEWASH WiNS (WASH in Schools) Recognition Program.
In 2022, P&G Safeguard and MWF installed 285 sets of hand hygiene facilities in school campuses in Metro Manila and in Jala-jala, Rizal. This year, the school campuses that have maintained their donated hand hygiene facilities and have successfully integrated the habit of proper handwashing in campus life will be recognized.
MWF will also have activities in partnership with the Manila Water Non-East Zone subsidiaries such as Calasiao Water, Clark Water, South Luzon Water, Laguna Water, Cebu Water and Boracay Water.
Global Handwashing Day is a global advocacy day dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding about the importance of handwashing with soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives. Every year, Manila Water Foundation leads campaigns with valued partners in its program Health in Our Hands.
Through synergies with the public and private sector, the goal of Health in Our Hands is to heighten the community’s awareness and practice of critical habits for healthy living.
