LIGAO CITY — Camalig Mayor Carlos Irwin “Caloy” Baldo Jr., and his sister Vice Mayor Ahrdail Baldo on Tuesday filed their certificates of candidacy (COC) in their bid for reelection at the upcoming 2025 polls.
The siblings, in an interview at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) office, highlighted several major projects for the improvement of the town.
Among the projects the sibling tandem is aiming for is the establishment of the Camalig Polytechnic College and the creation of the Local Economic Development and Investment Promotion Office (LEDIPO), which aims to support local businesses.
“I also promoted inclusivity in governance, providing employment opportunities for persons with disabilities (PWDs) and including women, the LGBTQ+ community, and solo parents in skills training programs,” Baldo said of his past achievements.
To further strengthen local tourism, he established visitor Information centers in Sumlang and Quituinan and spearheaded projects to improve tourism assets to attract more visitors.
He planned to establish a Super Health Center in Cotmon and the 24/7 Camalig Command Center to enhance emergency response and public security.
Meanwhile, Romella “Lhal” Baldo, wife of Daraga Mayor Carlwyn Baldo, filed her certificate of candidacy for her husband’s position.
Romella vowed to continue her husband’s legacy, focusing on the “Arangkada Banwa” program, which includes mobile healthcare services and livelihood opportunities for women and the elderly.
She plans to implement an “Arangkada sa Kabuhayan” program to improve economic stability in the town, particularly for marginalized groups.
“If elected, I will push for policies that economically empower women and the elderly,” she said.
Her husband’s term was interrupted when he surrendered in August after a warrant for his arrest was issued for his alleged role in the 2018 killing of his former political rival Ako Bicol Party List Rep. Rodel Batocabe and his police aide, Master Sergeant Orlando Diaz. He is still being held at the Camalig police jail pending instructions from the Regional Trial Court in the National Capital Region over the proceedings in the double murder charge against him.
