MANILA, Philippines — The agricultural damage caused by Typhoon Julian (international: Krathon) has reached P36.34 million, according to the Department of Agriculture (DA).

In a bulletin released on Wednesday evening, the DA said the damage covers 1,516 metric tons and 577 hectares of agricultural areas in Ilocos Region and Cagayan Valley. The typhoon has so far affected 1,000 farmers.

The DA also said it has conducted price monitoring for possible changes in the prices of agricultural commodities.

To help affected farmers, the DA prepared P143.26 million worth of rice, corn, and vegetable seeds, among others.

Julian re-entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) around 8 a.m. on Thursday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Julian was last monitored 245 kilometers northwest of Itbayat, Batanes. It was moving east-northeastward, packing maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour (kph) with gusts of up to 165 kph, Pagasa said.
