Magnitude 4.8 earthquake hits Surigao del Sur town
MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.8 earthquake jolted Lingig town in Surigao del Sur on Friday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
According to Phivolcs, the earthquake was an aftershock of the magnitude 6.8 earthquake that struck Surigao del Sur last August 3.

In an earthquake bulletin, the state seismologist said that the earthquake was located east of Lingig in Surigao del Sur and it occurred at 7:27 a.m.
It was tectonic in origin and had a shallow depth of 10 kilometers.

The magnitude 6.8 tremor that previously struck the province generated twin aftershocks in Lingig town last August 20. The earthquakes were recorded at magnitudes 4.9 and 4.2.
