Magnitude 4 earthquake jolts Quezon island town

LUCENA CITY — A magnitude 4 earthquake jolted the island town of Jomalig in Quezon province on Wednesday, Sept. 25.

The Philippine Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the tectonic tremor hit 38-km northeast of the municipality with a depth of 10 kilometers at 11:19 a.m.

The Phivolcs said they were not expecting damage or aftershocks from the earthquake.

Intensity I was felt in Jose Panganiban town in Camarines Norte province.

On Sept. 4, 10 successive tremors struck Jomalig with the strongest logged at 5.6-magnitude. All earthquakes were of tectonic origin.

Jomalig is located in the eastern part of the Polilio island group in northern Quezon facing the Pacific Ocean.

It is the smallest and farthest island municipality of the province.
