Manila councilor to run for House seat under Isko Moreno’s Aksyon party

MANILA, Philippines — Manila 3rd District Councilor Johanna Maureen Nieto-Rodriguez will run for a congressional seat in the 2025 national and local elections under the Aksyon Demokratiko party.

Nieto-Rodriguez officially took her oath on Thursday, presided by former Manila City mayor and Aksyon Demokratiko President Francisco “Isko” Moreno.

In a statement, Aksyon Demokratiko said that “[t]he party is particularly keen on engaging the youth in governance, recognizing their vital role in shaping the future of the nation.”

Moreno ran as a presidential candidate in the 2022 elections under the Aksyon Demokratiko. He was the recent presidential candidate to run under the political party after Raul Roco, the founder of the party, sought for the highest seat in the government in 2004.

Meanwhile, former senator Antonio Trillanes IV recently joined the political party and has officially expressed his intent to run for the mayoral post in Caloocan City for the 2025 midterm elections.
