MANILA, Philippines — The camp of Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KJC) founder Apollo Quiboloy filed a motion for hospital arrest in Davao City, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Friday.
PNP Spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said Quiboloy’s lawyer filed the motion to be transferred to a hospital in Davao City before the Pasig Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 159.
“Quiboloy will remain in a custodial facility, pending their motion for purposes of their request and motion for a hospital arrest,” Fajardo said in a press conference.
Earlier, Quiboloy, and four of his subordinates, Jackielyn Roy, Ingrid Canada, Cresente Canada, and Sylvia Cemanes, pleaded not guilty to athe Pasig RTC.
They likewise pleaded not guilty to a child abuse charge before the Quezon City RTC.
Aside from Quiboloy, Ingrid also wanted a hospital arrest but the Pasig RTC outright denied it, according to Fajardo.
Fajardo said Quiboloy “has to undergo medical assessment for purposes of ascertaining whether or not how complicated his medical condition is.”
Quiboloy has hypertension and is taking maintenance medicines, according to Fajardo.
Still, the PNP’s prosecutors objected to Quiboloy’s request.
“It defeats the purpose of transferring all of the cases originating from Davao only for them to be sent back there,” Fajardo pointed out, referring to their child abuse cases previously lodged in Davao City RTC but are now under the Quezon City RTC.
“If there is a need to really regularly monitor his health and medical condition, the PNP General Hospital is just a few meters away from the [PNP] custodial center,” she added.
Quiboloy and four co-accused were arrested last September 8 at the KJC compound in Davao City and were detained at the PNP Custodial Center in Quezon City.
The four co-accused suspects are expected to be transferred to Pasig City Jail on Friday.
Another co-accused, Paulene Canada, was arrested in July and was detained at the Pasig City Jail.
Fajardo on Thursday said they are compiling more testimonies and pieces of evidence after being approached by a new batch of victims.
Fajardo said these victims—some as young as 12 to 13 years old— were allegedly assured by Quiboloy that they remained “pure” and “intact” because they had sex with “the spirit of God.”
Quiboloy also allegedly warned the victims that an “Angel of death” will go after them if they break the code of secrecy.
Senator Risa Hontiveros, who first launched a probe on Quiboloy’s alleged abuses, on Friday said more victims of the televangelist are willing to testify against him in the Senate.
