MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is targeting to complete the siphoning process of fuel from Motor Tanker (MT) Terranova, one of the three sunken ships in Manila Bay, by Friday, September 13.
“The siphoning operation will be completed on Friday, September 13 (tentative date) or later, ensuring the recovery of oily waste on all cargo oil tanks, pipelines, and compartments of the sunken vessel,” the PCG said in a statement on Wednesday.

It added that BRP Sindangan (MRRV-4407) conducted an inspection and aerial survey at ground zero.
Aside from this, PCG also reported that 1,384,211 liters oily waste was already collected by MT Terranova’s contracted salvor, Harbor Star, from August 19 to September 10.
Last July 25, MT Terranova sank off Bataan, killing a crew member, while the oil spill reached the coastline of Manila and nearby provinces.
Aside from MT Terranova, two other ships sank in Manila Bay last month—MV Mirola 1 ran aground on July 31 and capsized, while MT Jason Bradley sank on July 27.
