MANILA, Philippines — A new low pressure area (LPA) may form inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) over the weekend.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), however, noted that the LPA may only result in “minimal enhancement” of the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, that is currently dumping rains over many parts of Luzon as it is being boosted by Severe Tropical Storm Enteng (international name: Yagi), which is now outside the PAR.
“Over this weekend hanggang sa Monday, possible na may mabuo na LPA sa may silangan ng Luzon sa loob ng Philippine area of responsibility,” Pagasa specialist Benison Estareja said in a weather report Thursday morning.
(Over this weekend until Monday, it is possible that an LPA will form east of Luzon, inside the Philippine area of responsibility.)

Estareja added that the new LPA would not have a direct effect on the country.
“Inaasahang kikilos ito pa-hilaga-hilagang silangan, at unti-unting kikilos papalayo sa kalupaan,” he also said.
(It is expected to move north-northeast and will move far from the landmass.)
“Ibig sabihin, may minimal enhancement lang ito ng habagat,” he further noted.
(Meaning, this will have a minimal enhancement of the southwest monsoon.)

Based on Pagasa’s 4:00 a.m. weather bulletin Thursday, Enteng’s trough or extension was bringing cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to the Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur while the boosted southwest monsoon was causing rains in Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro.
The enhanced southwest monsoon was likewise bringing occasional rains to Metro Manila, La Union, Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Laguna, Oriental Mindoro, northern Palawan, and the rest of Central Luzon.
As for the rest of the country, Pagasa said partly cloudy to cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms may be expected Thursday.
