MANILA, Philippines — La Mesa Dam overflowed on Wednesday morning due to heavy rains.

In its 9:00 a.m. update, Pagasa said the water level in La Mesa Dam reached 80.2 meters, which was over the spilling level of 80.15 meters.

A dam without floodgates would automatically overflow when it reached its spilling level, Pagasa explained.

This could lead to flooding in some parts of Metro Manila, particularly in the low-lying areas along the Tullahan River in Quezon City.

Flooding may also be experienced in Fairview, Forest Hills Subdivision, Quirino Highway, Sta. Quiteria and San Bartolome.

Valenzuela (North Expressway and La Huerta Subdivision) and Malabon may also be affected.

Last July, the dam also overflowed as its water level reached 80.17 meters due to the downpours brought by Typhoon Carina.
