MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is targeting to accomplish its P8.2 billion main office in Pasay City by 2028, according to its chair, George Erwin Garcia.
In an ambush interview after the groundbreaking of the new building on Monday, Garcia said they already started the construction for Comelec’s main office.
“It will start now and we will try to finish it within three to four years. It will end in 2028, as long as we do it now it will be accomplished,” the Comelec official disclosed.

He added that the budget for the building’s construction remains at P8.2 billion but revealed that Comelec will request additional funding if needed.
Last April 13, the Department of Budget Management (DBM) approved the funding for Comelec’s new headquarters.
Based on the DBM’s multi-year contractual authority (MYCA) shared by Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudianco to reporters, over P8 billion was set aside for the new building’s construction.
The poll body’s eight-story establishment will be built on its three-hectare property at the Pasay City Central Business Park I, Island A.
