Bagong Pilipinas alliance backs PNP, urges calm amid Quiboloy issue

MANILA, Philippines — The Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas, a coalition of five political parties, have expressed support for the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) exercise of its duties amid allegations of an overkill in implementing an arrest order against Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KJC) founder Apollo Quiboloy.

In a statement on Monday night, the five parties — the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), Lakas-CMD, the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), the Nacionalista Party (NP), and the National Unity Party (NUP) — also called on Filipinos to remain vigilant yet calm.

“The Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas, composed of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, Lakas-CMD, Nationalist People’s Coalition, Nacionalista Party, and National Unity Party, stands firmly in support of the Philippine National Police as they carry out their lawful duties,” the alliance said.

“The Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas is resolute in its belief that no one is above the law. We call upon all Filipinos to remain vigilant but calm, trusting in the processes that safeguard our democracy,” it added.

According to the groups, adherence to the law is paramount to ensure that people’s rights are protected.

“Our nation’s strength lies in our collective adherence to the law, and we must all contribute to ensuring that justice is served. Let us move forward together, upholding the principles of justice, peace, and order, for the betterment of our country,” the alliance noted.

“Together, let us continue to strive for a just and an orderly society, where the rights of every individual are protected and respected,” it added.

Last Saturday, around 2,000 members of the PNP raided the KJC compound in Buhangin District, Davao City, as part of another attempt to serve the arrest order against Quiboloy, who is believed to be hiding inside the compound.

Quiboloy is facing charges of child abuse and human trafficking, aside from outstanding subpoenas from the Senate and the House of Representatives.

“Early this morning, the police at Police Regional Office 11 implemented a warrant of arrest against Quiboloy,” Major Catherine Dela Rey, chief of the Davao Police Regional Office 11 Public Information Office, told INQUIRER.net in a phone interview Saturday.
