MANILA, Philippines — Overcast skies and rain showers are expected in parts of extreme Northern Luzon on Sunday due to the southwest monsoon or habagat.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), in a morning forecast, reported that habagat will mainly affect parts of Batanes and Babuyan Islands, while localized thunderstorms will prevail over the rest of the country.

“Habagat ang umiiral dito sa area ng extreme Northen Luzon kung saan ngayong araw, magdadala ito ng maulap na kalangitan at mataas na tsansa na pag-ulan, pagkidlat (at) pagkulog sa bahagi ng Batanes at Babuyan Islands,” Pagasa weather specialist Grace Castañeda said.
(The southwest monsoon is prevailing in the area of extreme Northern Luzon, where it will bring cloudy skies and a high chance of rain, lightning and thunderstorms, especially in parts of Batanes and Babuyan Islands.)
“Sa nalalabing bahagi ng ating bansa ay magiging bahagyang maulap hanggang sa maulap pa rin ang kalangitan at meron pa rin tayong posibilidad na isolated o panandalian na pag-ulan, pagkidlat at pagkulog lalong lalo sa hapon at sa gabi dulot ng localized thunderstoms,” she added.
(In the remaining portions of our country, it will be partly cloudy to cloudy skies and and we still have the possibility of isolated or short rains, thunder and lightning, especially from afternoon until evening due to localized thunderstorms.)
On the other hand, the low pressure area Pagasa monitored on Saturday already left the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
Besides this, Pagasa has not monitored any weather disturbance.
No gale warning was raised in any of the country’s seaboards.
