84-year-old man robbed, killed

AN 84-year-old retired teacher was found dead inside his house in barangay Lambusan, San Remigio town in northern Cebu last Saturday morning.

Valeriano Magdadaro, a retired teacher, may have succumbed to stab wounds on his stomach, chest and body parts from still unknown assailants.

Police are looking into robbery and personal grudges as the possible motives of the crime.

Police investigation revealed that Valeriano was sleeping alone inside his home in sitio Cadatan when the perpetrators entered his house and stole his bag which contained at least P10,000 cash.

Police said the robbery and killing possibly happened at early dawn.

Police said Valeriano has been  living alone after he separated with his wife.

Valeriano’s 53-year-old niece Thomasa Racho, discovered his death around 11 a.m. last Saturday.

Police said Racho who lives in the neighborhood, was about to do the laundry in Valeriano’s house and was surprised to see Valeriano lying on the floor in the living room with stab wounds on his body.

Police said Valeriano’s body was already stiff when they arrived.

Valeriano’s 62-year-old son Elmer of barangay Anapog of the same town, said his father kept a certain amount of cash inside his home.

Elmer said his father recently confided to him that he received P16,000 cash from one of his grandchildren who lives in Cebu City.

Police recovered a clutch bag hung inside his room which contained at least P9,000 cash.

Police turned over the recovered cash to Elmer.

Mandal said there was no forced entry in Valeriano’s house but the front door was left open.

Police said Valeriano’s neighbors did not hear any commotion from his home.

Mandal said it was possible that Valeriano knew his killer.

It was possible that Valeriano knew the perpetrators because if the motive is only robbery, they wouldn’t kill Valeriano.” Mandal told Cebu Daily News in Cebuano.

Police said Valeriano had an argument with a neighbor last Friday afternoon when he reprimanded his neighbor not to pasture animals in his lot.
