Alumni campers of the Kool Adventure Camp (KAC) are sharing their knowledge through their “Lapis ug Papel Tutorial Program” in sitios Mahayahay II, Bonbon and Pamutungan in Liloan town, northern Cebu.
This year, more children from the day care centers in two more sitios of Lilo-an are targeted to benefit from the program.
“Lapis ug Papel” is organized by the KAC campers from Lilo-an National High School (LNHS) as part of their community service after joining the camp.
The program already benefited at least 900 day care pupils since it was launched in 2007 in sitio Mahayahay.
Since 2007, members of the Kool Adventure Campers Club, the organization of KAC alumni in LNHS, conduct tutorial sessions in each sitio for two Saturdays every month.
Gil Corbes, club adviser and values education teacher, said, if they have sufficient funds this year, they would include the two mountain sitios in the program.
Welson Mendez, one of the volunteers, said he is fulfilled in giving his time to teach reading, writing and arithmetic to the day care pupils.
Club members also invited their parents and siblings to join and volunteer for the program.
Saira Anud, incoming fourth year high school student, is one of the club members who always brings her family to help in the program.
The club also shares gifts with the communities they visit every December through their “Bigay Puso” program.
KAC is one of the programs of Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc.
Currently, KAC is building the country’s first outdoor experiential center in barangay Cansomoroy, Balamban town in southwestern Cebu, which is set to open in 2013.
