SY 2024-2025 sees over 23 million enrollees in elementary, high school

MANILA, Philippines — More than 23 million elementary to senior high school students have enrolled for School Year (SY) 2024-2025 based on data by the Department of Education (DepEd) a week after classes began last July 29.

As of 9 a.m. of August 5 (Monday), a total of 23,845,025 students enrolled in public and private schools, alternative learning systems, and state universities and colleges, according to DepEd’s latest monitoring report.

Of this total, 20,859,109 students are enrolled in public schools, 2,666,903 are private, and 38,277 are in state universities and colleges and local universities and colleges.

The over 23 million comprise 13,234,374 elementary students, 7,011,942 junior high school students, and 3,317,973 in senior high school.

Earlier, the department said the number is still expected to go up until the end of the enrollment period on September 16.

Last August 1, DepEd reported that 454,082 students were affected by the delay in the opening classes of  615 schools in the National Capital Region and Regions 1 (Ilocos), 3 (Central Luzon), and 4A (Calabarzon).
