MANILA, Philippines — Fake eyewear products valued at approximately P5.5 million were confiscated by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) from different commercial stores in Binondo, Manila on Tuesday, July 30.

In a statement on Friday, NBI Director Jaime Santiago said that the NBI Rizal District Office seized counterfeit eyewear collections after executing three search warrants in several shops in Binondo.

The authorities received a complaint letter on July 4 that reported individuals and establishments in the city that were involved in distributing the fake goods.

The complaint was later confirmed after NBI’s monitoring and test-buy operations in the area, thus leading to the successful implementation of three search warrants for violation of Republic Act No. 8293, also known as the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.
