MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) on Thursday said the first tranche of the salary increase for government workers will begin this year.
According to DBM Sec. Amenah Pangandaman in a Palace briefing, P70 billion has already been set aside in the proposed budget for 2025 for the first tranche of the salary increase.
“Gusto po natin simulan na this year iyong first tranche ng ating salary increase,” said Pangandaman, as she explained that the salary increase will run until 2027.
(We want to start the first tranche of our salary increase this year.)
“So, iyon po four tranches hanggang (that’s four tranches until) 2027, and as of now po, we are perfecting the executive order po and we are hoping for the issuance of the executive order soon po,” she added.
When asked if the increase would be applied retroactively from January 2024, Pangandaman responded in the affirmative.
“January, yes,” she said.
It was during his third State of the Nation Address when President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced that salary increases await government employees which will be delivered in four tranches.

Medical allowance
Meanwhile, Pangandaman announced in the same briefing that P9.6 billion has also been set aside in the proposed budget to fund medical allowances for government workers.
With this, Pangandaman said a P7,000 medical allowance in subsidy will be provided to each government employee annually, starting in 2025.
