MANILA, Philippines — A guard of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) and a former inmate were arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for their suspected involvement in the killing of a mother and her son last June.

NBI Director Jaime Santiago presented the two suspects to the media on Friday and identified them as Corrections Officer 1 Pio Jonathan Aniero Eulalio and former inmate Raymond David Reyes.

Santiago said Eulalio and Reyes were arrested by operatives from the NBI Homicide Division in two separate operations last July 11 and 12, respectively, in Cavite.

Eulalio and Reyes are suspects in the killings of Christian and his mother, Gloria Razon Ortega last June 10 in Quezon City.

On that day, at around 2 a.m., mother and son were traveling on a white L300 van along L.R. Pascual Street in Barangay Baesa when a black Fortuner blocked their way.

Christian tried to reverse maneuver the van in an attempt to escape, but two men in the Fortuner fired shots at him, killing him.

The assailants then took P100,000 in cash and kidnapped Gloria.

Later, they demanded P5 million for Gloria’s release. However, she was eventually killed. Her body was found at a ravine, beside a dump site in Sitio Talahiban, Barangay Santa Cruz in Bay, Laguna last July 12.

Complaints for robbery with homicide and kidnapping for ransom with homicide were filed against Eulalio and Reyes before the Department of Justice (DOJ).

The two identified Vergel Burata Olanda, an employee of the victims, as their cohort.
