MANILA, Philippines — Director General Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr. said on Thursday that all persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) or inmates under the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), as well as personnel from various prison facilities and penal farms, are safe and sound after the onslaught of typhoon Carina.
He said no significant incidents had been reported from various operating prisons and penal farms (OPPFs) except the minimal damage to the perimeter fence at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong.
Catapang said the damaged perimeter fence at the CIW Medium Security Compound has been reinforced “to ensure security and containment.”

As early as 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Catapang placed all OPPFs under a heightened alert status until typhoon Carina left the Philippine area of responsibility.
The OPPFs under BuCor are the following:
- New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City
- Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City
- Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm in Puerto Princesa, Palawan
- San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm in Zamboanga City
- Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm in Occidental Mindoro
- Leyte Regional Prison in Abuyog, Leyte
- Davao Prison and Penal Farm in Davao
