MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Robin Padilla is the new president of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP).

The party disclosed the matter in a statement issued Wednesday morning, adding that Padilla has already assumed his post.

Padilla replaced Palawan Second District Rep. Jose Chaves Alvarez, who resigned from the position.

“As the new PDP president, Sen. Padilla will continue to consolidate the party membership and prepare for the 2025 mid-term elections which Rep. Alvarez started,” the PDP said.

“We are confident that under Sen Padilla’s leadership, the party is in good hands and will continue to be a major force for reform and development in the country,” it added.

Earlier, Padilla said he would only take the position if he could “do good things and help [his] fellow Filipinos.”

“Pero syempre po, hindi po ibig sabihin naman na wala akong mga bagong ipapanukala. Kung ito po ay tatanggapin ko, meron po syempre akong mga bagong ipapanukala sa PDP,” he added.

(But of course, it doesn’t mean I will not implement new policies. If I accept this, I will implement new policies in PDP.)
