COTABATO CITY — A farmer and his son were killed Monday in a highway accident in Datu Anggal Midtimbang town, Maguindanao del Sur.
Lieutenant Salonga Langguyuan, municipal police chief of Datu Anggal Midtimbang, identified the fatalities as Mustapha Dalandan, 25, a farmer, and his son, Moharis, 6, both residents of Barangay Poblacion.
Also injured and in critical condition in a hospital were Dalandan’s wife Baimen, and their children Sitte Hawa, 8, and Haipa, 6.
Langguyuan said the victims were on board a tricycle driven by Dalandan with his family members on board when hit by a Toyota Hi-Ace van as he tried to make a U-turn along the national highway at 5 p.m.
The children were thrown off the tricycle and suffered serious injuries, Langguyuan said.
The van driver, identified as Khadafie Guiamaludin of Cotabato City, is now detained at Datu Anggal Midtimbang municipal police detention facility.
Police are preparing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and injuries.
