SAN ANTONIO, Zambales — A Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA) cadet, who went missing after swimming on a beach, was found dead Monday in Barangay Isidro, Cabangan town, Zambales.

In a statement released Monday night, PMMA confirmed the death of Cadet Egie Pegoro, who drowned after swimming in Barangay La Paz, San Narciso town.

Pegoro and four fellow fourth-class cadets reportedly went swimming around 3 p.m. on July 19 during their official shore leave.

PMMA requested that the uploader take down the video circulating online, which captured the recovery of Pegoro’s body.

The school also asked the public to refrain from sharing it.

“We ask that you consider the emotional impact this has on those close to Midn/4CL Pegoro,” the statement read.

PMMA extended its deepest condolences to Pegoro’s family and friends and urged everyone to respect the privacy of Pegoro’s family.INQ
