MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) said a total of P9.5 billion has been set aside for government workers’ medical allowance in 2025.

The DBM’s announcement came a day after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. delivered his State of the Nation Address (Sona), where he promised additional benefits in the form of medical allowance to government employees.

“Para naman sa ating mga kawani ng gobyerno, mayroon silang maaasahang medical allowance bilang karagdagang benepisyo sa susunod na taon,” the President said in his third Sona at the Batasang Pambansa on Monday, July 22.

(Our government employees shall have reliable medical allowance as an additional benefit next year.)

According to the DBM, each government worker will receive a medical allowance as a subsidy to health maintenance organization (HMO) benefits or HMO-type benefits by next year.

“For its implementation, a total of P9.5 billion has been allocated under the Miscellaneous Personnel Benefits Fund for 2025,” it said in a statement Tuesday.

The medical allowance covers employees under national government agencies, state universities and colleges, and government-owned or -controlled corporations of the executive department.

“Sa pamamagitan po ng pagbibigay ng medical allowance sa ating mga lingkod-bayan, matutulungan po natin silang maibsan ang kanilang medical expenses kung kinakailangan, at masigurong napangangalagaan ang kanilang kalusugan,” said DBM Secretary Amenah Pangandaman.

(By giving medical allowance to our civil servants, we can help them reduce their medical expenses if necessary, and ensure their health is taken care of.)
