Police nab 6 persons found with guns, drugs

DIGOS CITY, Philippines—Police and anti-narcotics agents here arrested six persons caught trying to smuggle in high-powered firearms and illegal drugs from Maguindanao, police  said Saturday.

Senior Superintendent Ronaldo Llanera, provincial police director, identified the arrested persons as Tok Abdul Molamad, 42, the driver; Mohammad Sadil, 36, Nasruddin Monib, Tonudok Kanakan, 22, Abubakar Alapit Mohammad, and Karnen Samiron, 52, all residents of Maguindanao.

He said the men were caught in possession of two homemade Tomgram machine-guns when they were flagged down by the authorities at a checkpoint around 6:30 p.m. Friday. They were also found in possession of an unspecified quantity of shabu, or methamphetamine hydrochloride, he said.

Llanera said the men were now detained at the Digos City police station pending the filing of cases against them.
