Over 3,000 Leyte residents get P3,000 AKAP aid — Romualdez

MANILA, Philippines — At least 3,000 residents from different towns within Leyte’s 5th congressional district received P3,000 cash aid each under the Ayuda para sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP), the Office of House of Representatives Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez said on Thursday.

According to a statement from Romualdez’s office, the Speaker was represented by Leyte 5th District Rep. Carl Nicolas Cari and House Deputy Secretary General Sofonias Gabonada when the payouts were made.

“Some 3,000 beneficiaries from various municipalities of the fifth district of Leyte received P3,000 cash aid under the [AKAP] program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) at the city gymnasium in Baybay City, Leyte,” Romualdez’s office said.

“Introduced by the House of Representatives under the leadership of Speaker Martin G. Romualdez, the AKAP program seeks to cater to Filipinos classified as poor and ‘near-poor’ or minimum wage earners, low-income earners in the informal economy and those experiencing financial distress,” it added.

The distribution of the AKAP aid comes on the heels of a Leyte-wide caravan where over 16,000 also got received assistance.

Last Tuesday, at the caravan’s last stop at San Miguel, Leyte, P8.1 million worth of cash assistance was distributed to over 2,000 qualified residents as part of the Tulong Pangkabuhayan sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program.
