MANILA, Philippines — The government is already working to address power supply issues in the province of Palawan,,” President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. said on Thursday.
Marcos made the pronouncement during the distribution of assistance packages in the province, where he stated that the Maharlika Investment Corp., National Electrification Corp., and Palawan Electric Cooperative had started working together to address the matter.
“A study is being conducted to improve the electricity supply in your province,” said Marcos in Filipino in his speech.
“We are hoping for positive results of these agreements,” he added.
In preparation for the effects of the rainy season, Marcos also told Palawan residents that the government has already reserved P140 million worth of food and non-food items, as well as P5 million stand-by fund for the Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) region.
Other Palawan projects nearing completion
Meanwhile, Marcos also announced the status and progress of several other projects in the province.
According to Marcos, the dam component of the Ibato-Iraan small reservoir irrigation project in the municipality of Aborlan is already 95 percent complete, while the Balabac Military Runway is already at its final stage of construction.
Marcos also stressed the government’s plans to boost tourism and transportation, as he mentioned the Puerto Princesa Airport Development Project and the Pagasa Island Airport Development Project.
“There are different challenges or problems facing us, but we can overcome them if we continue to work together. If we unite, I’m sure we will overcome any challenges and achieve our goals,” he said.
Aid for farmers, fishermen
During the aid distribution to help farmers and fisherfolk recover from the El Niño dry spell, P100 million in financial aid was given to the Puerto Princesa City government and the provincial governments of Palawan and Marinduque.
Cash assistance worth P10,000 was also provided to each of the 20 selected beneficiaries.
The Department of Agriculture also distributed agri-fishery assistance packages, including farm machinery, fishing equipment, seedlings, fertilizers, and financial support.
Marcos was first supposed to lead the distribution of assistance in Romblon, but he canceled it and instead proceeded to Palawan due to inclement weather.
He is also scheduled to visit Ilocos Norte to inaugurate an irrigation project in the province.
