MANILA, Philippines – The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) has urged children and dependents of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to start preparing their documents as the online application for its scholarship program will soon open.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, the OWWA announced that the application period for the Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP) and the OFW Dependent Scholarship Program (ODSP) will be from July 26 to Aug. 16, 2024.

OWWA said the EDSP is available for OFW’s children and dependents who are 2nd to 5th-year college students, while the ODSP is for those who are in 1st year to 5th year.

The EDSP is a scholarship grant to qualified dependents or a sibling of a single active OWWA member who is an incoming Senior High School student or Grade 12, or an incoming college freshman, who is not more than 21 years old, with a generally weighted average (GWA) of 80 percent, and without failing grades.

For incoming freshmen, the selection of scholars is determined through the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) national examinations.

Those already enrolled in the 2nd  to 5th year of college, who are not more than 30 years old, and who have a GWA of not lower than a B letter grade or 85 percent equivalence in all academic and non-academic subjects during the last school year attended may apply.

Successful applicants will receive a maximum of PHP60,000 per school year until they complete a four- to five-year baccalaureate course.

Meanwhile, the ODSP is a scholarship program that offers financial assistance amounting to PHP20,000 per school year to qualified dependents of OFWs who receive a monthly salary of not more than USD600 (PHP34,000), and who shall enroll, are currently enrolled, or have been enrolled in any four-year or five-year baccalaureate course or associate course in any college or university.

Interested applicants may go to any OWWA Regional Office near them for information on the documentary requirements and to file their applications.
