MANILA, Philippines — Vice President and outgoing Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sara Duterte expressed her optimism on Wednesday that the National Learning Camp (NLC) will contribute to the skills needed by Filipino students.
According to Duterte, a whole-of-community approach is needed to sustain the NLC, which includes parents, local government officials, and members of the education sector, among others, which she also thanked for their contributions to the program.

“I am optimistic that this program will continue to yield positive outcomes, improving the foundational literacy, numeracy, and 21st century skills crucial to our learners’ future success,” Duterte said.
“A whole-of-community approach that brings together parents, barangay officials, our local government units, partners, principals, and other education leaders, and parents is central to the National Learning Camp; and is essential to how we educate our children,” she added.
Duterte made her remarks at the National Learning Camp Appreciation program in Cebu.
She added that more than 2.1 million learners from Grades 1 to 3 and 7 to 10 joined the 2024 NLC, while there were also more than 185,000 learning camp volunteers nationwide.
