Another alleged rebel killed in Masbate clash

LEGAZPI CITY — Another alleged rebel was killed in a clash Wednesday with Philippine Army troops in Masbate City in Masbate province.

The unidentified New People’s Army (NPA) member was abandoned by 14 other members of the Guerrilla Front Commitee-North of Sub-regional Guerilla 4 after the 10-minute firefight around 8 a.m. with the 96th Infantry Battalion in Barangay Igang, according to a report of Major Frank Roldan, spokesperson of the 9th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army.

The government troops recovered an M14 rifle, an M16 rifle, and other personal belongings at the clash site.

On July 8, Vergel Balcueva, leader of the Front Operational Command of the Sub-regional Committee 2, was killed in a firefight in Tinambac town in Camarines Sur.

On the same day, two unnamed members of the Guerrilla Front Committe-South, Sub-Regional Committee 4 also died in a separate clash in Esperanze town in Masbate.
