LEGAZPI CITY — An alleged member of the New People’s Army (NPA) was killed in a clash on Monday, July 8, with government troops in Tinambac town in Camarines Sur.

Major Frank Roldan, spokesperson of the 9th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army, said in a report on Tuesday, July 9, that Vergel Balcueva, Disan, Joey, and James, died in the 10-minute firefight around 9 a.m. with the 83rd Infantry Battalion in Barangay San Ramon.

Roldan said Balcueva was the leader of the Front Operational Command of the Sub-regional Committee 2.

He was facing two charges for attempted murder, two frustrated murders, and illegal possession of firearms, ammunition, and explosives.
