‘Gang war’ seen as cause of man’s death in Makati

MANILA, Philippines—Authorities are looking into five suspects behind the killing of a 28-year-old man in Makati City before dawn Friday, police said.

Makati City Police chief, Superintendent Jaime Santos, said that investigators are initially looking into five gang members as suspects behind the death of Ruel de Guzman along Pasong Tamo around 4:30 a.m.

“We think it’s an old grudge, a gang war because they used a homemade gun [sumpak] in killing the victim,” he said.

Senior Police Officer 4 Rolando Losaria said the victim who sustained three gunshot wounds to his back was attacked along Pasong Tamo but collapsed along Pasong Tirad.

“He managed to walk after he was shot,” he said.

The police are conducting further investigations to identify the perpetrators.
