MANILA, Philippines — A low-pressure area (LPA) was spotted off General Santos City on Wednesday, according to the state weather bureau.

As of 8:00 a.m., the LPA was spotted 365 kilometers east southeast of the city, according to Benison Estareja, weather specialist of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Estareja said the LPA, which is embedded inside the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), is “almost stationary in the coming hours” and is “slowly moving westward.”

“Development of this weather disturbance into a tropical cyclone is less likely,” Estareja said in his presentation on Pagasa’s 173rd climate forum.

He added that the LPA might dissipate within 24 to 36 hours.

However, the combined effects of the LPA and the ITCZ may bring overcast skies and rains over Caraga Region, Davao Region, Soccsksargen (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos City), and Northern Mindanao.
