MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) said more than 90,000 seedlings were planted in 205 areas for Arbor Day.
According to the DENR, the activity will help bring positive changes to the environment, including the lowering of greenhouse gases and the promotion of care for nature, as it is a move against global warming.
More than 1,540 volunteers joined the planting activities nationwide, the agency noted.
“The activity is part of the Philippines’ contribution to global efforts to reverse global warming caused by the increase in greenhouse gases due to deforestation, transportation, agriculture, burning of fossil fuels, and the manufacturing industry,” the DENR said in a statement Tuesday.

“It is also a major step toward re-greening the environment and promoting a healthy ecosystem,” it added.
The DENR said planting sites included areas in Tanay, Antipolo, Baras, San Mateo, and Rodriguez in Rizal province; and that some of the seedlings planted were of narra, apitong, molave, and other fruit-bearing trees, among others.
