The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said a magnitude 4.2 earthquake struck the waters east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur at 6:35 a.m.

Phivolcs said the tectonic earthquake had a depth of focus of 42 kilometers (km) and was an aftershock of the magnitude 7.4 earthquake in Surigao del Sur in December 2023.

No damage or aftershocks are expected.

Meanwhile, a magnitude 4 earthquake was recorded east of Maasin, Iloilo at 9:50 a.m.

It had a depth of focus of 24 km.

It was felt at Instrumental Intensity 1 in Tapaz, Capiz, Phivolcs said.
