SBMA kicks off weeklong Arbor Day celebration
SUBIC BAY FREEPORT — The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) kicked off on Monday (June 24) a weeklong celebration of Arbor Day.
Every year, the SBMA Ecology Center initiates the Arbor Day celebration to facilitate further participation of various stakeholders in environmental activities inside the freeport.
This year’s event is dubbed “Kanian Tiawon, Kanina Bi-ag, Kanian Bi-ay,” which means Our Forest, Our Home, Our Life.

SBMA Regulatory Group head and Ecology Center manager Amethya Dela Llana-Koval said that some activities also aim to improve the Laywa Reforestation Site’s security and appearance.
Article continues after this advertisementThe activity on Monday at the Harbor Point Ayala Mall is the “Muling Pagbabalik: Opening Ceremony,” to be followed by the “Haati na akyo nabyay ha dyikot” or “Dito na ako nabuhay sa gubat” (I came to live here in the forest) Exhibit that will run from June 24-28.

The SBMA Ecology Center will also conduct the Tiawon Talks: Arbor Day Lectures from June 25-27 as part of the celebration, which will be capped off with the Magtanum kitamo: Subic Bay’s Arbor Day on June 28 at the Laywa Reforestation Site in Sitio Pastolan, Hermosa, Bataan.
Arbor Day is an activity mandated by Republic Act 10176, or the “Arbor Day Act of 2012.”
