2 killed as truck slams into jeepney

MLANG, North Cotabato, Philippines—Two people were killed and a dozen others injured when an Isuzu truck slammed into the rear of a jeepney as passengers were alighting from it in Barangay (village) Tibao here on Thursday, the police said Friday.

The incident took place around 11:30 a.m., according to Inspector Caesar Caballero, Mlang deputy police chief.

Caballero said the Mlang-bound jeepney was unloading passengers by the roadside when the truck, also going on the same direction, smashed into it.

He said the injured passengers were rushed to a hospital.

The truck’s driver, identified as Rogelio Cruda of Calumpang, General Santos City, surrendered to the police. He faces charges of reckless imprudence resulting in double homicide and multiple injuries, Caballero said.
