Marcos says October 30 is National Day of Charity

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. issued Proclamation No. 598, declaring October 30 of every year as the “National Day of Charity.”

According to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO),  the two-page proclamation was signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on June 13.

The PCO said in a statement on Saturday that under Proclamation No. 598, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) is tasked with leading, coordinating, and supervising the observance of the “National Day of Charity.”

The PCSO will also be responsible for identifying programs, activities, and projects for the celebration, the PCO noted.

Marcos urged all government agencies and instrumentalities, as well as government-owned or -controlled corporations, financial institutions, and state universities and colleges, to join in the observance of the event.

Meanwhile, all local government units, non-government organizations, and private sectors were encouraged to do the same.

The PCO said the President’s declaration of the “National Day of Charity” aligns with the Marcos administration’s commitment to promoting and uplifting the lives of every Filipino under “Bagong Pilipinas.”

“Bagong Pilipinas, as the overarching theme of the Administration’s brand of governance and leadership, calls for deep and fundamental transformations in all sectors of society and government, and visions to emphasize compassion, solidarity and social responsibility among Filipinos,” Proclamation No. 598 states.
