GSIS aids deceased teacher’s family, others hurt in Negros Occidental mishap
BACOLOD CITY — The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) is providing claim benefits to the family of a teacher who died and the others injured in a bus accident on June 14 in Don Salvador Benedicto town in Negros Occidental.
“The GSIS is committed to ensuring that their benefits are processed swiftly, offering relief during this difficult time,” said Wick Veloso, GSIS president and general manager, on Friday, June 21.
The teachers of the Paglaum Village Elementary School, who joined a team-building activity on Sipaway Island in San Carlos City, were on board a Bacolod City government bus that fell on its side after its brakes failed at a downhill section of the highway.

Arlyn Tolosa Verde, 42, died, while 37 others were injured, 31 of whom were teachers.
Article continues after this advertisementVeloso said the dependents of the deceased teacher are eligible for death benefits, survivorship, funeral, and personal accident insurance.
Article continues after this advertisementThe injured teachers are eligible for medical reimbursement through their personal accident insurance and can file for an employee’s compensation claim.
“The GSIS is closely working with the Department of Education to ensure these claims are released promptly,” Veloso said.
