Pagasa: Cloudy skies with rain in many parts of the Philippines

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said cloudy skies and rain are likely to occur in many parts of the country on Saturday, June 22., 2024, due to the southwest monsoon, locally termed “habagat”, and localized thunderstorms. MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said cloudy skies and rain are likely to occur in many parts of the country on Saturday, June 22.

The southwest monsoon, locally termed “habagat”, and localized thunderstorms were dominant factors that could trigger these weather conditions over the western section of the country, especially in Southern Luzon and Visayas, Pagasa noted in an advisory.

“Makikita natin dito sa latest satellite images ang mga kaulapan sa western section ng ating bansa ay ang patuloy na epekto ng hanging habagat sa kanlurang bahagi ng Southern Luzon at Visayas,” Pagasa weather specialist Daniel Villamil said.

Pagasa said scattered rains may also be expected in parts of the Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.

Other parts of the country, including Metro Manila, are predicted to experience fair weather despite chances of localized rain showers and thunderstorms, it added.

Villamil said the effects of the southwest monsoon may gradually weaken by Monday although temporarily.

Currently, Pagasa is not monitoring any low pressure area or tropical cyclone inside and outside the Philippine area of responsibility, according to Villamil.
