MANILA, Philippines — The Ninoy Aquino International Airport’s (NAIA) lost-and-found division received a call from a person claiming to be the sibling of the alleged owner of the cash in a pair of socks returned by a building attendant, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said on Friday.

In a phone interview with INQUIRER.net, the MIAA Media Affairs Division said the caller said the owner was outside Manila and would claim the money once they returned.

The MIAA also said the alleged owner will be subjected to a verification process to determine whether they are the owner of the item. The agency explained that it did not disclose the amount to avoid false claimants.

On Thursday, the MIAA said that 41-year-old Rosalinda Cellero found a pair of socks that contained “a substantial amount of cash” under a bench at the NAIA Terminal 3.

Cellero returned the money, which was in foreign currency, to the airport’s lost-and-found section.

MIAA General Manager Eric Ines praised Cellero for her integrity.

“We are delighted to have individuals like Rosalinda who exemplify strength of character and righteousness in the face of tempting situations. Her action is a testament to the values we uphold in NAIA. Truly, there are angels in our midst,” Ines was quoted as saying in the release.

Cellero will be given a certificate of commendation in the MIAA’s flag-raising ceremony in July.

The MIAA added that from May to June, it gave out 21 commendation certificates to airport workers.
