LUCENA CITY — A van driver died, and five passengers got injured on Wednesday, June 19, when the vehicles they were riding collided on the Maharlika Highway in Atimonan, Quezon.

The Quezon police said in a report Thursday, June 20, that at around 2:30 p.m., a Toyota Hi-ace van driven by Jaime Alecaño, 50, overtook another vehicle in Barangay Tinandog.

When the van returned to its lane, it slid on the slippery road and collided with an oncoming truck driven by Conrado Dela Cruz Jr., 41.

The collision caused injuries to Alecaño and his five passengers, who were taken to the Doña Marta Memorial District Hospital in the locality, but the driver expired on the way.

The police are conducting further investigation.
