If you are delivering goods to the public market in Marikina City, you only have two hours to park and unload.
A city ordinance now limits the parking time at so-called bagsakan or unloading areas in the market to prevent the build-up of vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
First-time violators face a fine of P1,000, and P2,000 for a second offense. A third violation results in the confiscation of the driver’s license.
For now, the measure is being implemented particularly on P. Burgos, E. dela Paz and E. Jacinto Streets, which will be open for deliveries only from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily.
“We designated ‘bagsakan areas’ so that shopping in our public market would be more convenient for the consumers and motorists,” Mayor Del de Guzman said.
The ordinance was approved by the city council after about 90 percent of the market stall owners and buyers responded favorably to the measure during a one-month experiment, according to the city’s media office.—Kristine Felisse Mangunay
