DOH sees slight decline in dengue cases from May to June

There was a slight decrease in the number of reported dengue cases based on the Department of Health’s (DOH) latest data.

MANILA, Philippines — There was a slight decrease in the number of reported dengue cases based on the Department of Health’s (DOH) latest data.

In a statement on Saturday, the agency said that 3,793 dengue cases were logged from May 19 to June 1.

This is lower than the 5,368 cases from May 5 to 18, and 5,305 from April 21 to May 4.

However, the DOH said that there have already been 197 dengue-related deaths reported since the beginning of the year and 70,498 total cases.

“Seven regions showed case increases in the recent 3–4 weeks: Cordillera, Ilocos, Zamboanga Peninsula, Cagayan Valley, Caraga, MiMaRoPa, and Northern Mindanao,” the DOH said.

Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa once again advised the public to remain vigilant against dengue-carrying mosquitoes:

“More water means more mosquito breeding grounds. Kill mosquitoes to keep dengue down. Search and destroy stagnant water. Also, don’t let these pests bite you,” he said.
