Romualdez urges civil engineers to build ‘inclusive’ infrastructure
MANILA, Philippines — Civil engineers should focus on building “inclusive and accessible” infrastructure in the country to ensure that they “meet the needs of all citizens,” House of Representatives Speaker Martin Romualdez said Friday.
Speaking at the 2024 Midyear Convention of the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE), International Engineering Expo, and Technical Conference, Romualdez promised the House’s support to infrastructure projects that promote “inclusivity and accessibility.”
“In ensuring a better future for Filipinos, we must also focus on inclusivity and accessibility. The infrastructure we build must be designed to meet the needs of all citizens, including those in underserved and remote areas,” he said.

“The bridges you build, the roads you pave, and the buildings you construct are not just structures of concrete and steel; they are symbols of our collective aspirations and the foundation of our future,” he said.
“The future we envision for the Philippines is one where every Filipino has access to quality infrastructure, education, and opportunities. It is a future where our engineering sector continues to thrive, driven by innovation, resilience, and a commitment to excellence,” he added.
The PICE was formed in 1937 by engineer Enrique Sto. Tomas Cortes under the name Philippine Association of Civil Engineers.
