The singer, whose hits in the 1970s included “Balatkayo,” “Hahanapin Ko,” and “Nang Dahil sa Pag-Ibig,” was a known supporter of Mr. Marcos’ father and namesake, the late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

A former Quezon City councilor, Castelo is the second singer and Marcos loyalist to be named recently to a government post.

Last week, the PCO announced the appointment of Imelda Papin as an acting member of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office’s board of directors.

Known as “Asia’s Sentimental Songstress,” Papin even joined the Marcos family when they fled to Hawaii after the 1986 Edsa People Power Revolution.

She was later elected as Camarines Sur vice governor. —JULIE M. AURELIO
