DepEd set to finish Teacher Education Council Secretariat appointments
MANILA, Philippines — The Teacher Education Council (TEC) Secretariat appointments will be completed in due time, the Department of Education (DepEd) said on Wednesday.
DepEd made the pronouncement in response to allegations by an unnamed advocacy group about alleged delays in the appointment of TEC officials.

The TEC drafts the requirements for teacher education programs.
It also proposes strategies to attract qualified individuals to the teaching profession.
Article continues after this advertisement“Contrary to the baseless insinuations made by a certain ‘advocacy group,’ DepEd understands the importance of these appointments for the TEC’s functionality and the broader goal of enhancing teacher education and training,” it said in a statement.
Article continues after this advertisement“We also understand the need to abide by the proper processes in relation to the creation of new plantilla items in government,” it noted.
The council enumerated the steps taken for the appointments in the TEC Secretariat.
These actions include Vice President Sara Duterte, who also heads the DepEd, meeting with the TEC and the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).

“As a result of the foregoing, the proposed organizational structure and staffing pattern (OSSP) of the TEC Secretariat was submitted to the DBM on 25 March 2024,” the DepEd said.
“The subject proposal was then approved by the DBM on 21 May 2024,” it added.
