02:56 PM May 17, 2012

CEBU City police were ordered to secure Mango Square amid a brewing property dispute between the prominent Ludo and Luym families.

Mayor Michael Rama said he was also prepared to provide a venue for the two families to sort out their differences. He is also ready to mediate between the families.

“The city can go down to their level and call both parties.

They can sit down with the city attorney and with their lawyers present to discuss their concerns,” the mayor told reporters yesterday.

Rama said he may be able to help owing to his background as conciliator and president of the Accredited Arbitrators of Cebu.

But the mayor said the city government doesn’t want to be involved in the property dispute.

He also advised tenants of Mango Square Mall who are affected by the family dispute to seek legal advice on what steps they could also take.

Rama said he heard of the conflict among Ludo and Luym family members long before.

Their families were not represented when the city gave out plaques to the 75 families of distinction during its Charter Day testimonial dinner held on Feb. 24.

Some of the affected tenants of Mango Square Mall sought an audience with Rama to raise their concerns on the property dispute, but the mayor wasn’t around at the time.
