BARMM Grand Coalition condemns ambush of village exec in Cotabato

The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Grand Coalition (BGC) condemned on Saturday the ambush on a barangay official in Cotabato City on Friday.

MANILA, Philippines — The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Grand Coalition (BGC) condemned on Saturday the ambush on a barangay official in Cotabato City on Friday.

Initial reports said that five people were injured in the incident, while Barangay Kalanganan 2 chairperson Edris Ayunan survived.

“The BARMM Grand Coalition (BGC) condemns and calls for an impartial investigation on the ambush of Bgy Chairman Edris Ayunan of Bgy. Kalanganan 2 in Cotabato City that left one person dead and 5 injured.  Chair Ayunan, as per initial report, survived the ambush,” the BGC said in a statement.

The coalition likewise expressed concern over the incidence of crime in the city.

“The almost daily occurrence of crime and violence in Cotabato City is instilling fear on peace-loving citizens and is threatening the growth of trade and business in the city,” it added.

It also called on authorities to investigate the incident.

“The BGC is respectfully calling the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) for an impartial and swift investigation not only on the ambush of Chairman Ayunan but also on the spate of killings and the presence of unauthorized armed persons and groups in Cotabato City,” it said.
