‘Habagat’ to bring overcast skies, rain in NCR, western parts of PH
MANILA, Philippines — The southwest monsoon, locally known as the “habagat,” is forecast to bring overcast skies and rain over the western sections of the country on Thursday, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
According to Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estareja, rainy weather should be expected over the western portions of Luzon, specifically, Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa and Camarines provinces.
“Asahan ‘yung kalat-kalat na pag-ulan and thunderstorms lalo na sa hapon at sa gabi with light to moderate with at times heavy rains,” said Estareja in Pagasa’s latest forecast on Wednesday afternoon.
The habagat will likewise affect Western Visayas, as well as parts of Mindanao, specifically, Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi Tawi — with rain and cloudy skies expected in the said areas.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country or its eastern portions will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with chances of rain in the afternoon and evening.
No low pressure areas or tropical cyclones in the meantime are being monitored by Pagasa within and outside the Philippine area of responsibility.
